Indonesian Tofu Kecap

Satay Chicken Kebabs


Only since Chinese settlers introduced the easily-farmed soy beans to Indonesia did Tofu become as widely used by everyday Indonesians as it is today. Enjoy the authentic and inexpensive vegetarian dish served warm with rice.

Preparation Steps

  • 1In a wok, deep fry the tofu in 180mls of the oil at high heat for 2 to 2 minutes or until golden brown, set aside and allow oil to drain.
  • 2In a wok, fry the garlic and shallots in remaining 15 mls of cooking oil for 3 minutes or until light brown and fragrant.
  • 3Add red and green capsicums and stir fry for a further 2 to 3 minutes. Add the ginger, bay leaves, ABC Sweet Soy Sauce, sugar, pepper, water and tofu and simmer for 10-15 minutes. Serve hot with rice.
